Grade

The territory of the municipality of Grado extends between the mouth of the Isonzo and the Adriatic Sea and the lagoon of the same name, which runs from Porto Buso to Fossalon. The main town is located on the main island and is divided into numerous areas and districts: Gravo vecia, Borgo de fora, Isola della Schiusa, Colmata, Centro, Squero, Città Giardino, Valle Goppion, Grado Pineta and Primero.

This island carries with it the tradition of an ancient fishing village and guards an historic centre that is a labyrinth of alleys and small squares; what makes it special compared to other seaside destinations are the Y-shaped harbour that represents the town’s living room, the tree-lined avenues with Art Nouveau villas, the romantic promenade that seems suspended between earth and sky, and the Barbana sanctuary, set in a fascinating lagoon just waiting to be explored.

The lagoon comprises about 30 islands and covers an area of about 90 square kilometres while, inland, the municipality of Grado includes the hamlet of Fossalon, a fertile agricultural area created by land reclamation in the first half of the 20th century, and Boscat. Discover below the different areas into which the island of Grado is divided.
